However, having learnt of this day, I have to confess to being just a little bit chuffed about it because I've been a user and lover of fountain pens pretty much my whole life, and even to this day my preferred daily writing tool is my trusty Parker fountain pen which accompanies me pretty much everywhere I go.
I have previously posted a little bit about my fountain pen addiction in a post I wrote entitled Gift Of Letters in which I wrote about how I had written to Paula each and everyday for a year for our silver wedding anniversary. And yes, all the letters were written using my fountain pen.
Not only does my fountain pen travel almost everywhere with me, so does a pack of spare ink cartridges in my pencil case, just in case... I also keep two bottles of ink on the go, one on my desk at home, and the other on my desk at The Gathering, just to be certain that I never run out of ink.
My love for a fountain pen goes all the way back to primary school days in which those of us who mastered cursive in pencil graduated on to cheapo scholastic fountain pens. As nasty as those pens were, the seed was sown and a passion was born...
I was quite chuffed in my first Social Work post to find I was on a team of Social Workers amongst whom the fountain pen was revered just a tad, and so for the last 30 years I nearly always choose to write with a fountain pen, or if not then a pencil. Yep, I'm seriously old school like that.I think I'm quite unusual in my love for a fountain pen in so far as I'm a lefty, or south paw as I prefer, and most left handed people tend to avoid using fountain pens. Also, being a lefty, I defend my pen from others desecrating it, especially right handers. That nib must be protected!
Happy Fountain Pen Day to you all.
